Interior

Design

Whenever a building or space is constructed, an architect or designer creates a drafted plan, a.k.a. a blueprint. This plan describes and depicts how the building spaces are to be connected, how they are to function and eventually how they are to be constructed. I thought this process could be interchangeably applied to life.  London born, I attended Ottawa University after high school to study criminology and psychology. I quickly discovered while I have a deep passion for helping people, this profession would not allow my creative flag to fly. So I took a leap and changed my career path completely into the world of interior design. This is my foundation.

Since this transition I have dedicated myself to the profession by building up my walls, so to speak, by gaining as much interior design and real life experience as possible. While completing my four year Bachelor of Interior Design degree I worked as a CAD technician for a custom millwork company. I have rendered many technical drawings and 3D presentations. During the summer of 2015, I worked under a designer specializing in interior finishes, space planning, lighting plans, colour consultations and custom furniture design for large scale residential projects. In 2016, I worked for an engineering firm as an architectural technologist. My duties included assisting engineers with the production of structural working/permit drawings and specifications for building projects in steel, concrete and timber.  Now I work for a premier full service build company as a Jr. Designer and Project Manager.

My technical skill sets have supported me through my work experiences to date. I would consider this the flow of my floor plan. I am technically skilled in AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop + Illustrator, Building Code (OBC), LEED Standards (I have completed the registered introduction course), and all social media platforms including web design. I am educated in the many avenues of interior design including anthropometrics and ergonomics, psychological environmental behaviors,  the elements and principles of design, colour psychology, product/material specifications and applications and visual/spatial awareness. I am committed to the profession and hope to become a registered ARIDO member in the future.

I am a go-getter, an organizer and a leader. I love helping people. I recently won several awards including the Centura London Excellence In Innovative Material and Finish Application Award, the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario Contribution and Commitment to the Profession Award, the POI Business Interiors and Steelcase Canada Award, the At Work Leadership Excellence Award and the North American STIR Sherwin William Interior Colour Competition.  I was elected student representative for the school of design 4 years in a row. I participate in a Mentoring Committee offering support to upcoming students in design. I was a part of the Resource Library Committee creating resource connections in the community, I volunteered for Heritage Building Preservation London and I am an ARIDO volunteer. These traits are my mechanical systems and have helped form my internal hard wiring.

If you were to ask my friends, family and peers to describe me they would say I am full of life, smiles, and energy. I consider myself a very social person and believe that a sincere smile, honest laughter or a tentative listening ear is almost always the best medicine. I am driven and passionate about my work, my friends and the world around me. I believe these qualities are my finishes – my aesthetic appeal.

Albert Einstein said “logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you anywhere”- in my opinion with design, I get to do both interchangeably and it is so fulfilling.
